Konya Chambers of Commerce (KTO) Karatay University Construction Society voluntarily renovated a village school which has 10 students, in Köseali quarter of Konya. There are now 5 schools that the student society has renovated in total. Köseali elemantry school, located 90 kilometers from the center of Konya, has 10 students. Kids are taught by only one teacher in a class in which four classes are combined in an old building. The Construction Society of the Konya Chamber of Commerce (KTO) Karatay University, which previously renovated schools in different places under the direction of Assistant Professor Sadrettin Sancıoğlu, who is also an academic in the Department of Civil Engineering, and his students, took action with the “Hands Joined, Hearts Grown” slogan. Supported by the Konya Provincial Directorate of National Education, the Konya Bar Association and the Konya Branch of the Chamber of Civil Engineers, a team of 40 people, including lawyers, visited Köseali and gave it a remarkable makeover. They carried out all the renovations, from painting the school to sanding and varnishing the desks, renewing the sinks and flooring, installing heating, and even landscaping around the school. The group undertook these renovations as part of their community support efforts. The Area Used as Coal Storage Transformed into a Kindergarten The university students also cleaned the coal storage area and turned it into a kindergarten. Additionally, they performed a play and gifted to kids various packages including stationary equipment. Engineering and Natural Sciences Faculty, Department of Civil Engineering, 4th-year student and President of the Construction Society , Ahmet Furkan Kırgın, expressed his feelings as ‘Witnessing the excitement of the children, teachers, and the community was an indescribable feeling. When the children were happy, we were also very happy.' Merve Okumuş, a 4th-year student from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Architecture, said, 'Seeing the happiness in the children's eyes was a priceless feeling. Advisor to the student society, Research Assistant Sadrettin Sancıoğlu, stated, 'There were about 200 tasks to be done. We implemented the project in a collaborative manner. Köseali Primary School became the 5th school where we conducted renovations.’ Source: Sabah
