Due to the ongoing developments in the construction sector, this information has to be updated continuously. Consequently, another objective of the course is to introduce the students with the means of following the most recent developments and help them gain this habit. Content : During the first weeks of the term, the course will focus on an overview of general information on building performance, the geographical and physical characteristics of the site and the influences of natural factors such as sun and wind. Regarding the construction systems,the course begins with the definition of the basic concepts of stability and strenght. Then it focuses on reinforced concrete, steel and wood structural systems as well as foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, roof & insulation systems. Through samples and case studies, he/she will gain the ability of using this knowledge in practice. 4 He/she will learn about the universal and local standards and regulations used in the design and construction process, and be able to compare different applications. 5 He/she will also have general information about building materials and develop the habit of following this rapidly developing sector 6 He/she will develop the habit of continuously observing the built environment that we are living in.
