The aim of the Department of English Translation and Interpretation at the Faculty of Economics, Administrative, and Social Sciences of KTO Karatay University is to bring qualified translators into Turkey’s academic and industrial sectors. It seeks to train professionals equipped with language, culture, communication, and intercultural interaction skills, capable of providing scientific and acceptable translation services considering the history of translation. Students are expected to acquire acceptable and well-regarded written and oral translation skills, supported by contemporary theories and approaches, within the framework of historical translation perspectives and practices. These skills are anticipated to be applied during their internship periods. Instead of requiring students to choose between British and American spelling and pronunciation, they are encouraged to develop "intelligible" communication skills with people worldwide whose first, second, or third language is English. Based on their ranking, successful students may participate in a Double Major Program (DMP) within the available quota. Students are required to learn a second foreign language in addition to English. Curriculum changes are made based on the demands of internal and external stakeholders. Along with completing two internship periods, students translate a Turkish novel into English as part of their graduation project. Through this process, they complete their professional preparation. Program Mission The mission of the program is to equip students with linguistic and cultural competencies, fostering the development of individuals who provide high-quality translation services and possess strong ethical and professional standards. Program Vision The vision of the program is to increase the number of graduates who excel in their profession, communicate effectively in English and two additional foreign languages, possess satisfactory international experience and exposure, and are employed by international organizations.
